Stratigraphy, Sedimentology, and Paleontology of the Midco Member, Wellington Formation (Permian –Sumner Group) of Oklahoma

Joseph D. Hall, Roy J. Beckemeyer, William J. May

Abstract

Stratigraphy, Sedimentology, and Paleontology of surface outcrops of shales, carbonates, and siliciclastics of the Midco Member of the Permian Sumner Group Wellington Formation are discussed in relation to their depositional environment. Lithologies, fossil assemblages, and stratigraphic sequences show evidence of continental and peritidal brackish to marine depositional environments. Fossil assemblages of the Midco include extensive vertebrate trackways, Lingula, horseshoe crabs, newly discovered insect genera, and extended geographic ranges of Permian amphibians and reptiles.
