Abstract
Study of the Dispersing Agents
George Tchillingarian
ABSTRACT
On studying various dispersing agents it was found that sodium hexametaphosphate and sodium tetraphosphate are the most effective deflocculants. The dispersing characteristics of other chemicals like sodium pyrophosphate and sodium acid pyrophosphate approach sodium hexametaphosphate very closely and the deciding factor in choosing one of them for laboratory use should be that of economy and price of chemical. The amount of polyphosphate required for maximum effect varies from 0.025 to 0.06 grams per 100 cc of thick suspensions.
The desirability of finding some chemical which will prevent flocculation of suspensions high in organic and electrolytic content has been felt for a long time. Several solutions of this problem are offered in the present work.
