Abstract
Significance of Skewness and Kurtosis in Environmental Interpretation: NOTES
Luiz R. Martins
ABSTRACT
Diverse opinions exist regarding the value of skewness and kurtosis of granulometric curves for discrimination of sedimentary environments. A test on beach and dune sands of Rio Grande do Sul coastal plain (Brazil) demonstrates that the method suggested by Mason and Folk (1958) and by Friedman (1961), using grain size parameters, truly distinguishes between sands of beach and dune environments at the studied area.
