Abstract
Procedure for Recovering Bottom and Interstitial Waters From Cores of Sandy Sediments from the Continental Shelf: NOTES
John E. Sanders (4), Gerald M. Friedman (5), Robert S. Bennin
ABSTRACT
Various coring techniques can be used to recover not only bottom sediment but also a sample of bottom water and the interstitial water below the water/sediment interface. Commercially available plugs inserted at the top of the core-liner tube create a tight seal. From such sealed cores segments can be cut off one at a time from the bottom. Within each is a sample of undisturbed interstitial water, which can be recovered in a pressure-type squeezing vessel.
