Abstract
Depressions In Shallow Marine Sediment Made By Benthic Fish: NOTES
David O. Cook
ABSTRACT
Certain benthic marine fish, including rays, skates, and flatfish, temporarily bury themselves in sediment and thereby create shallow depressions. These have been observed near shore in the Pacific Ocean off southern California, the Gulf of California, and Long Island Sound. If preserved, such biogenic sedimentary structures could aid in interpreting former depositional environments.
