Abstract
Suspended Sediment Increase Due to Hurricane Gerda in Continental Shelf Waters Off Cape Lookout, North Carolina
Kelvin S. Rodolfo, Barbara A. Buss, Orrin H. Pilkey
ABSTRACT
Suspended sediment concentrations and average grain sizes in surface and near-bottom inshore waters off Cape Lookout, North Carolina increased significantly following the passage of Hurricane Gerda in September, 1969. This effect was dissipated within a week after the hurricane. Transport of inner shelf sediment to the outer Carolina shelf may be accomplished mainly by such storms.
