Abstract
A Microsplitter for Subsampling Small Particulate Samples: NOTES
R. Brewer, K. J. Barrow
ABSTRACT
A microsplitter for subsampling small particulate samples has been designed and tested. The principal innovation is that the splitting device rotates during operation. The present model can handle samples up to about 1.0 g in the size range 200 µm to 10 µm in a single operation. The principle could be used to construct a device to handle samples of any reasonable weight and grainsize. It is shown statistically that the microsplitter does not introduce a significant error in grain counts of mixtures of hornblende and quartz in the size range 20-50 µm.
