Dissolution of Shell Material with No Disruption of Primary Sedimentary Structures

Daniel G. Stephens (2), James E. Eason, George W. Pedlow

ABSTRACT

Leaching of marine fossil shells from beach barrier sands with no major disruptions of primary sedimentary structures has been documented in a Pleistocene barrier environment. It is concluded that the absence of marine fossils within such sands cannot be used as evidence of their absence at the time of deposition.
