An Analysis of the Formation and Development of Avalanches on Submarine Slopes

K. A. Bilashvili

ABSTRACT

Terrigenous material from river-input accumulates on the adjacent upper continental slope and shelf edge and eventually moves to the deep sea. A set of geomorphic and hydrologic conditions determines the types of movement. The motion can be quantitively described by a set of derived equations. In addition, the force of the sliding loads on obstacles and structures can be quantified.
