Previous HitFlatNext Hit Stratification: Two Ancient Examples

R. C. Lindholm

ABSTRACT

Previous HitFlatNext Hit stratification is a type of planar stratification produced by migration of very small ripples (height <5 mm and length <10 cm) or "very low-amplitude sand waves" in shallow water (<5 cm). This structure has been previously described in flume studies but not in ancient deposits. Two examples of Previous HitflatTop stratification from the rock record (one is Triassic and the other Devonian) are discussed to confirm its possible importance in sedimentary rocks.
