An Assessment and Calibration of Formulations for Bagnold's Bedload Previous HitEquationNext Hit

J. Hardisty

ABSTRACT

Bagnold's bedload Previous HitequationTop in the form q ^agr (u - ucr)3 has frequently been employed to predict sediment mass transport rates in tidal flows and to assist with the interpretation of ancient tidal deposits. However physical considerations suggest that the form q ^agr (u2 - u2cr)u is more correct. This latter formulation is therefore calibrated with experimental data, and the coefficient of proportionality is shown to be strongly dependent on the sediment grain size.
