“Recognizing Large SP Anomalies in the Cretaceous Carbonates Along the Balcones System, and How to Interpret Them”

John V. Crues, Jr.

Abstract

Rw calculations in the carbonate sections along the Balcones System in South Texas can be very hazardous due to the unusually large SP’s. The cause of these SP’s is probably two fold: first, the effect of the electrokinetic SP and second, the effect of non-NaCl solutions in these formations. Either of these effects can lead to erroneous Rw values, thus wrong Sw values.

Previous HitLogTop examples illustrate the problems encountered in evaluating these formations for possible shows of hydrocarbons.
