Stratigraphic and Paleogeographic Evolution During Cenozoic Time in Western Indonesia

Franco Paltrinieri, Pierre Saint-Marc, Bona Situmorang

Abstract

Offshore and onshore geological information coming from recent exploration work in Western Indonesia (Sumatra, Kalimantan, Java Sea and Java) improve our geological knowledge of this area. during Cenozoic time.

Three major orogenic events have been recognized: in early Tertiary, early Middle Miocene and Plio-Pleistocene times.

Compilation of stratigraphic data between those tectonic activities enables us to draw the paleogeographic and structural evolution of the southeastern edge of the Asian Plate.
