Geohistory Analysis — A Review

G. W. Hughes

Abstract

Geohistory analysis enables a two dimensional representation of subsidence rate, lithological and palaeobathymetric variation against time, of any well section with sufficiently accurate biostratigraphic control. With the addition of local geothermal gradient data an assessment of the thermal maturity, at any level in the well, may be produced.

This relatively new technique enables numerous conclusions to be made, regarding tectonic history, the presence and effects of unconformities and degree of thermal maturity.
