Advances in Geophysical Techniques for the Detection of Drilling Previous HitHazardsTop and Their Application to Seismic Exploration

D. C. N. Pratt, Tong Pow Mun

Abstract

The introduction of new equipment and techniques in the site survey market has increased the quality and capability of site survey crews in the Far East. These new capabilities include:

  • Airgun and Watergun arrays capable of firing at 6.25 metre interval

  • Digital recorders which can sample at 0.25 msec over a larger number of channels

  • Longer streamer length or up to 1200 metres

  • Specialised processing including Amplitude Versus Offset (AVO) and Attribute Analysis

These newly introduced techniques have resulted in much improved data, enabling more reliable detection of thinner gas pockets and other potential constraints.

As a by product, some site survey spreads in the region are also capable or acquiring quality data to pay zones with improved resolution over conventional seismic.
