Abstract
Hai Thach Gas Field: New 3D Seismic Accelerates 1st Gas
Abstract
The Hai Thach gas field is located in the Nam Con Son Basin (NCSB), offshore of southern Vietnam. 3 billion boe have been discovered in the NCSB. The Gas "Drivers" in NCSB are the market, resource and transportation. To make Hai Thach attractive all 3 drivers must be reaches simultaneously. Existing 3D seismic data makes mapping reservoirs and gross depositional environments difficult. The vertical and horizontal reservoir connectivity is poorly imaged with limited bandwidth and noisy date. Better data with higher resolution will allow mapping reservoirs in detail and evaluating risks of horizontal and vertical connectivity possible. The assertion that 3D seismic >5 years old needs to be reshot is strongly supported by this new dataset. New 3D has allowed the "resource driver" to move closer to 1st gas.
