Abstract
The 26 Dec 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami: Will an early warning system work? Some Geoscience Perspectives
Abstract
After the devastating 2004 Sumatra earthquake that triggered a tsunami in the Indian Ocean people want to know will an early warning system work. Earthquake triggered by the movement of tectonic plates around the world some have repeat patterns on the like of 200 year cycle. This makes creating an early warning system a difficult task. The only realistic warning system for areas close to the earthquake is taking appropriate action, moving to higher ground, as soon as an earthquake is felt. Areas that are father away will require a warning system that is connected to a public warning system. It is also important to build structures that can not only take an earthquake but stand strong against any after effects like tsunamis.
