Oil Development, Exploration & Development Opportunity: Vulcan Sub-basin, offshore North West Shelf Australia

John Anderson

Abstract

OMV is seeking to divest its portfolio of oil production, discoveries and exploration assets in the offshore Vulcan sub-basin located in the Timor Sea, on the North West Shelf of Australia. The transaction offers immediate oil production and cash flow, and extensive operated portfolio of potential oil development and exploration assets covered by 3D and Petroleum Resource Rent Tax (PRRT) credits. The portfolio covers an area of some 29000 km2 surrounding and to the north of the Jabiru and Challis oil field in the Vulcan sub-basin and consist of three production licenses, three retention leases over four oil pools and three exploration permits covered with modern 3D seismic. The majority of the developed and discovered oil pools within the region are contained within tilted fault block traps of Middle Jurassic fluvial sands with excellent reservoir quality.
