Offshore Vietnam: Blocks 120 and 105 — 110/04

David Cliff

Abstract

Block 120 and 105 offshore Vietnam are large blocks in proven petroleum systems that are adjacent to producing Chinese gas fields. These blocks are underexplored with significant industry interest. Block 120 has large structures evident on seismic data, oil has been encountered on-block and has the potential for 500 MMBO+ prospects. Well 120-CS-1X targeted a Miocene reef structure with a 6 meter oil column and 32 meter oil and gas show. There was an apparent lateral seal failure on the Tri Ton Horst due to juxtaposition of turbidite sands and or platform carbonates. AVO confirms a working petroleum system in the block. Block 105 has numerous leads evident on seismic data with apparent direct hydrocarbon indicators.
