Abstract:
The general features of the gas-producing sandstones of Ohio are discussed. The marked unconformity between rocks of the Pennsylvanian-Mississippian systems controls the areal distribution of certain underground rocks and, consequently, determines the presence or absence of certain gas-bearing zones. Unconformities within the Devonian-Niagaran dolomitic group and certain overlaps determine the thickness of the "Big lime." Thickness of the Ohio shales and the "Big lime" are shown by isopach maps. Subsurface structure maps show the attitudes of the Trenton limestone, the Clinton sandstone, and the Berea sandstone.
