Abstract:

The Bekapai field was discovered in April, 1972, and is located approximately 15 km off the Mahakam delta, East Kalimantan in the central part of the Mahakam Contract Area. The exploration concession is held by Total Indonesie and Inpex Indonesia Ltd. under a production sharing contract with Pertamina.

The field structure is a large faulted anticline with an area of 210 sq km and a vertical closure of 400 m. The reservoir zones are at depths ranging from 1,300 to 1,600 m. The reservoirs are usually distributary front, channel, and bar deposits of a large eastward-prograding deltaic system.

Production started in July, 1974, from a single well as a pilot project. Production (slowly declining now) is at a rate of about 46,000 b/d from three platforms.
