Abstract:
The Milbur (Wilcox) field produces from an Eocene barrier bar which has formed a wholly stratigraphic trap. Although the field is small, it is significant because it extends a producing stratigraphic trend 100 mi (160 km) to the north. The barrier bar is 6 mi (10 km) long and 2 mi wide and has a maximum thickness of 30 ft (9 m). The updip lagoonal edge is productive. Faults of the Mexia-Talco system have slightly altered the oil-water contacts in the sandstone body. Several cycles of barrier-bar deposition can be delineated on electric-log correlation sections by identifying the characteristic log signatures of the genetic units. Petrographic analysis also can determine the depositional environments.
