Abstract:

The Parkman field is located on the northeastern shelf edge of the Williston basin in the province of Saskatchewan, Canada. The field produces from a paleogeomorphic trap at the subcrop of the Mississippian Tilston beds. The intersection of the basal seal and the unconformity allows the trapping of an oil column that exceeds the paleotopographic closure. Consequent valleys dissected the Parkman cuesta and left monadnocks exposed to the advancing Watrous (Jurassic) seas.

The wide range in rock characteristics is manifested in the behavior of the fluid flow through the reservoir. Variations in well productivity are associated with lithology and, more specifically, with the morphology of the voids. Reservoir quality is the result of the combination of internal rock geometry (porosity, grain size, and pore-space configuration), stratigraphy, and cuesta development.
