Abstract:

Source rocks in the Pannonian basin are dominantly lower Miocene to lower Pannonian shales that have matured during rapid Neogene subsidence and burial. Ages of reservoir rocks vary from Paleozoic to Pliocene and the reservoirs are often of mixed types. Structural and unconformity traps related to basement highs are common and have been the subject of much exploration in the last few decades. Future prospects are related to fractured and fissured basement rocks at greater depths and to stratigraphic and unconformity traps within the Neogene sediments in deep troughs.
