ABSTRACT

The lower Mesozoic Nazas Formation, where it crops out in the Sierra de San Juli225_a.jpg (470 bytes)n in northern Zacatecas state, Mexico, consists of slightly metamorphosed volcanic rocks and unfossiliferous continental red beds measuring a combined total thickness of approximately 1 km. The age of the Nazas remains equivocal, although limited radiometric dates from the Nazas and adjacent units indicate that the formation is probably Triassic and/or Early to Middle Jurassic in age.
