Abstract:

Radiocarbon data from the deep water of the Black Sea indicate a mean residence time of the water of 935 years. It is proposed that about half of the inflow from the inflow from the Mediterranean is advected to the surface and only half of it participates in forming the deep water. Bottom waters are 2,000 ± 200 years old.
