Abstract:
In the time interval from 25,000 to 7,000 years B.P., the diatoms deposited in deep Black Sea sediments were predominantly freshwater species. From 7,000 years B.P. to modern times, brackish and marine species have predominated. Diatom studies thus corroborate studies by other investigators which indicate that the Black Sea gradually changed from a freshwater to a brackish-marine environment in the time period between approximately 10,000 and 7,000 years B.P.
