Abstract:

Four pollen diagrams were prepared from bottom sediments collected off the western coast of the Black Sea. From these diagrams, it is concluded that the organic material of the marine sediments is derived principally from the continent; marine contributions are subordinate. The pollen spectra are characterized by the dominant species from the adjacent land areas; Pinus is moderately abundant. The composition of the spectra is related to the distance of the sample from the coast.

In some cores the microplanktonic organisms are uniformly distributed, whereas in others they display a manifold increase at certain levels.
