Abstract:

From the distribution and general composition of marine sedimentary rocks and their faunas in the Gondwana area, I have concluded that the widespread occurrence of marine rocks of Paleozoic and Mesozoic ages, especially in Western Australia, southern Africa, and Antarctica, is inconsistent with the hypothesis of Gondwanaland. Historically, this hypothesis was based on the assumption, now proved erroneous, that most Paleozoic and Mesozoic rocks in Southern Hemisphere (Gondwana) continents were of continental origin.
