Mississippian Boundaries and Subdivisions in Mid-Continent
Classification and correlation of Mississippian units has been confused because similar lithofacies and biofacies have been considered equivalent. Time-rock units have been thought missing whereas they are present in different facies. It is suggested that the base of the Kinderhookian series be restored to its original position and that the redefined Kinderhookian and the Osagean be combined into a single series, one for which no name has yet been proposed.
