Geological Review of Waterflood Prospects

R. D. Faxon

Abstract

A geological review of waterflood prospects is vital to the careful estimate of chances for success or failure. Study of the production history is of prime importance and should include the when, how, and why of the prospect. Careful contouring of the producing rock body should include shape and thickness, and as complete a pictorial construction of the reservoir body as possible. The calculated efficiency of oil production by water input, the probable consistency of the reservoir rock, and the available geologic control in the area—all constitute important elements of prospect evaluation. The final element in review is, of course, calculation of the oil recoverable by flood.
