Abstract
Geology of the Buck Mountain-Bald Mountain Area, Southern Ruby Mountains, White Pine County, Nevada
Abstract
— The mapped area includes some, or all, of T. 20 to 24 N., R. 56 to 58 E., in western White Pine County. It includes the low hills which occur as the southern end of the Ruby Mountains. A Paleozoic section from Upper Cambrian (Hamburg dolomite) to Lower Permian (Arcturus-“Rib Hill” formations) rocks is exposed in uplands of the area and totals approximately 17,000 feet thick. Tertiary volcanic rocks, fanglomcrate, and terrace gravel, and Quaternary lacustrine, eolian, and fluvial deposits flank the mountains. Two quartz monzonite stocks and numerous associated aplite dikes are exposed in the northern part of the area.
