Pre-Pleistocene Fresh-Water Ostracodes in Nevada, Northwestern Utah, and Southern Idaho

Frederick M. Swain

Abstract

Five principal fresh-water ostracode assemblages are recognized in Late Cretaceous through Pliocene lacustrine deposits of the Great Basin and adjoining areas. These are: (1) a Late Cretaceous and Paleocene assemblage in east-central Nevada; (2) an Eocene assemblage in east-central Nevada; (3) a late Eocene and Oligocene assemblage in central Nevada; (4) a Miocene assemblage in northeastern, western, and southern Nevada and northwestern Utah; and (5) a late Miocene(?) to late Pliocene assemblage, which possibly includes early Pleistocene elements, in southern Idaho, northwestern Utah, and northeastern Nevada.
