Vegetation of the Uinta Mountains and its Relationship with Geology and Geomorphology

Sherel Goodrich

Abstract

Plants and plant communities of the Uinta Mountains commonly reflect local geology and geomorphology. Some plant species are restricted, or essentially so, to limestone and others to the more acidic siliciclastic Uinta Mountain Group. Some plants are restricted to talus slopes and others are not found on talus. Elevation and related climate are strong determining factors of the distribution of plants and plant communities. However, influences of elevation and climate are not independent of geologic strata and landform.
