Aeromagnetic Lineament Study of the Highland Valley Area, British Columbia

David A. Smith

Abstract

Study of stereo aeromagnetic maps covering a 5, 800 square kilometer area centered on Highland Valley, British Columbia, reveals a multitude of aeromagnetic lineaments. The lineaments are distributed directionally as a pronounced NS-EW pairset and Previous HittwoNext Hit sub-Previous HitsetsNext Hit. The sub-Previous HitsetsNext Hit may be interpreted as Previous HittwoNext Hit Previous HitorthogonalNext Hit pairsets (the preferred interpretation), or as Previous HittwoNext Hit 60°-120° Previous HitsetsTop.

Dominant lineaments of ten kilometers to more than forty kilometers in length transect the area. They strike northwest, north-northwest, north, northeast and east. The strike of the more prevalent long lineaments coincides with the north-northwest regional tectonic trend.

A number of smaller lineaments, trending northwest to north-northwest, are concentrated in the central part of the Guichon batholith in the vicinity of the Highland Valley copper deposits.
