Abstract: The Geologist's Obligation

By

Edd R. Turner

Man has developed from a low intelligence level to a highly trained animal with almost unlimited brain capacity. Along with this increase in knowledge in the past 1,000,000 years, a complex society has evolved dependent on vast injections of energy that, if seriously interrupted, could cause the whole system to collapse.

The preferred American Way of supplying energy needs entails continued free enterprise and free market action of a large force of geologists. The American Way also requires a business profit to maintain the system. If we, as geologists, do not fight for recognition and fair treatment, present political action will drastically change our life-style. The current proposed energy bill is proof of this.
