The record of subsidence in this area goes back to 1906, the date of the first comprehensive releveling. Since that time, subsidence has become an expensive community problem, the causative agents have been recognized and studied, a governmental body has been created to combat it and the entire historical pattern of subsidence has been shifted areally.
