Abstract
Abstract: Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material

NORM is an emerging environmental
issue in the home, industry and the
petroleum industry. NORM includes
Radon 222. Radium 222, 228 Lead 210, gross
alpha and beta particles, phospho-gypsum
and many other radionuclides. New
regulations have just been promulgated
in Texas and by the end of 1993 it is
expected that 12 states will have their
own NORM regulations. The EPA is also
working on NORM regulations which
affect the Safe Drinking Water Act. The
author will review the basic
elements
and
definitions
of NORM as well as the new
regulations.
