One way to quickly identify the most attractive plays in a basin is through interpretation of regional seismic profiles in combination with adjacent well and other geologic data. Such transects provide insights into: 1) the location of economic basement, 2) maturation history and migration pathways, and 3) regional structure and stratigraphy, which can thereby help understand present plays and recognize new plays. This poster session presents seismic and geologic transects in the southern US. The first line extends from the Arkoma Basin in Arkansas across Louisiana and the continental shelf to the base of the Sigsbee Escarpment. The second starts in the Black Warrior Basin and extends southwards to the central Green Canyon area. These transects illustrate the regional petroleum geology of the southern U.S. and show that even in an area as mature as the Gulf Coast, changing one's perspective can lead to new geologic insights.
