ABSTRACT: Salt Solution Mining for Cavern Development Prior to
Gas Storage Operations
Sempra Energy
This presentation will address some recent past and current development activities at the Sempra Bay Gas Salt Cavern Gas Storage Facility in Washington County, Alabama. The facility has five caverns. Gas is actively being stored in four of them. Cavern #5 is currently undergoing development for storage through solution mining. Figures 1 through 4 show the stages of preparation of a cavern for gas storage operations.
