Abstract
Application of Water Injection to the Reddin Unit Field
Abstract
Water injection to increase oil recovery has been practiced in the Reddin Unit Field, Jones and Taylor Counties, Texas for several years. Initially, only water produced with the oil was returned to the Lower Hope Limestone. Although the amount of water injected was limited, the results of this primary injection program dictated the need for an expanded program. A full scale injection program was initiated in 1949 by increasing the number of injection wells and supplementing the produced water with water obtained from an underlying reef formation.
The results of this program have been highly encouraging to date. In late 1951, water injection was also commenced in the Flippen Sand reservoir. Considerable engineering study has been applied to the various other producing formations in this Field with the result that a recovery of several million barrels of additional oil is probable through the application of secondary recovery methods to these reservoirs.
