Abstract:
The Kreyenhagen shale at the type locality on Canoas Creek, Fresno County, California, is Eocene in age. The siliceous, diatomaceous shale north of Coalinga, lying above an Eocene sandstone and usually referred to the Kreyenhagen of late years, is not the equivalent of the original deposit given that name and may be the same as what is called Oligocene or Lower Miocene elsewhere in the state.
