Abstract:
Since the discovery, during the past several years, of productive gas fields in south-central New York and northern Pennsylvania, interest has been aroused in prospecting for gas in this general region. This commodity is not subject to over-production in the eastern Appalachian and adjacent regions where adequate market facilities are available. A belt of country immediately east of the old developed oil and gas fields of the Appalachian region is believed to possess possibilities for the development of additional natural gas supplies. Gas in paying quantities has been found east of the 63 or 65 carbon-ratio line, which is usually regarded as the limit for the discovery of oil in commercial amounts. Carbon-ratio lines for this eastern belt are shown on a map which has bee prepared by using available coal analyses published by the United States Bureau of Mines.
