Abstract:
The discovery of sodium sulphate-bearing brines west of the Pecos River in southeastern New Mexico within a short distance of the potash mines gives promise for commercial development if sufficient reserves can be located. The brines are found in the Castile formation where weathering has altered the anhydrite. A theory is postulated to explain the origin and accumulation of the brines. A brief summary of sodium sulphate production in the southwestern states is given.
