The author is a marine biologist, formerly with the Scripps Institution of Oceanography and the Johns Hopkins Marine Station. He discusses the paleogeographic factors of foraminiferal ecology, including depth, distance from shore and sedimentary conditions, and attempts to apply these factors in the ecology of living foraminifera to environmental significance of fossil foraminifera.
