Title: Developments in North Texas in 1951

Abstract:

The area included in this paper covers Texas Railroad Commission District 9 and Grayson and Collin counties of District 5.

Production increased to 59,816,500 barrels of oil, and gas production to 75,356 MCF in 1951. During the year 3,094 tests were drilled, of which 831 were exploratory. With 170 wells completed as discoveries or extensions, exploratory drilling was 20 per cent successful, opening 31 new fields. Among the more important discoveries were (1) stratigraphic accumulation in Pennsylvanian sandstones, Grayson County field, (2) structural accumulation in three Strawn sandstones, Grayson County field, (3) Caddo limestone production in southern Wise County, (4) stratigraphic and structural accumulation from a Strawn sandstone, Baylor County, and (5) lower Pennsylvanian production in Foard County.

The seismograph was the leading exploratory tool. About 28 per cent of this work was concentrated in Grayson County.

Major leasing activity during the year was concentrated in Collin County and southern Grayson County.
