Title: Developments in Eastern Canada in 1951

Author(s): W. A. Roliff (2)

Abstract:

Exploratory drilling in eastern Canada declined somewhat in 1951 as compared with 1950; a total of 56 wells were drilled compared with 62 wells in 1950. Exploration was, however, more successful in southwestern Ontario, 6 new gas pools, 2 deeper-pool gas, and 2 small shallow oil pools having been discovered. Gravity surveys were continued in southwestern Ontario and interest was revived in the prospects of Newfoundland.

Development drilling was continued at approximately the same rate as in 1950, 264 development wells being completed, 262 in Ontario and 2 in New Brunswick. Oil production in 1951 amounted to 216,918 barrels and gas production 8,865,096 Mcf.
