Title: Petroleum Developments in Europe in 1951

Author(s): F. E. Von Estorff (2)

Abstract:

Production of crude oil, including condensate, in western Europe increased from approximately 14,00,000 barrels in 1950 to more than 17,000,000 barrels in 1951 an increase of 21.4 per cent. This rise in western Europe's relatively small production was due primarily to the development of the Lacq field in southern France, and also to the development of old fields, the discovery of new producing formations, and a new field in western Germany. Production in the three other producing countries, the Netherlands, Great Britain, and Italy, remained constant.

Active exploration was carried on in western Austria, Denmark, Portugal, and Spain, besides the foregoing five producing countries.

No reliable information is available from eastern Europe, which is therefore omitted in this review.
