Abstract:
An attempt is made to standardize the names of types of sand deposits along marine coasts, with special emphasis on geometry rather than on hypothetical origin. Distinct separations are made between submerged deposits which extend along the coast, here referred to as "bars," and emerged deposits, referred to as "barriers." A classification of cusp-shaped features is suggested. Most of the definitions are illustrated by air photographs.
