Title: Developments in Montana, North Dakota, and South Dakota in 1952

Author(s): Herbert D. Hadley (2), G. Wendell Smith (3)

Abstract:

Unprecedented exploratory activity marked developments in Montana, North Dakota, and South Dakota during 1952. Most of this increased tempo was restricted to the Williston basin parts of these states.

In North Dakota, the first production outside of the Nesson anticline area was developed in Bottineau County. Production from a definite Devonian reservoir was established by the Shell Oil Company at Southwest Richey, Dawson County, Montana.

Greatly increased geologic and geophysical activities point toward a further substantial increase in drilling during 1953.
